The first new XC60 rolls off the production line in Torslanda, SwedenSweden – The first vehicle, painted white, rolled off the line this morning. The new XC60 replaces the original version after nine years of production and nearly 1m deliveries.

“We have worked hard in recent weeks and months to prepare Torslanda for this latest new Volvo model, and now we are ready to start delivering new XC60s to customers," said Magnus Nilsson, vice-president at Torslanda.

The new mid-size SUV is the fourth model to be based on Volvo's SPA architecture, following the recent introduction of the 90 series. The addition of SPA vehicles has required investments at Volvo's Swedish plants, including the addition of personnel in R&D, production and other areas.

Today the XC60 represents around 30% of Volvo’s global sales and the company said it expects record figures in 2017 as the new vehicle becomes available in more markets.
