Once the phased expansion project is complete and the site is fully ramped up, it will have the capacity to produce up to 500,000 batteries a year for models based on the MEB platform

Braunschweig will supply batteries for the fully electric ID.3, ID.4 and the Skoda Enyaq iV models. In addition, the plant will produce up to 100,000 battery systems for the e-up!, Seat Mii electric, Skoda Citigoe iV and as well as for hybrid vehicles such as the Golf GTE.

A new €300m, 40,000 sq. m production hall will support series production of the MEB batteries. VW says highly automated processes are being used to produce the battery housing, including the latest welding, adhesive and sealing techniques. The housing units are then assembled together with the cell modules and a control unit. Several in-line, air-tightness and end-of-line test beds have been installed as part of the quality control process and employees required for the expansion of the production capacities have been retrained and prepared for working with high voltages.

In addition to the battery systems, Braunschweig also produces steering systems, brake discs, suspension struts, wheel bearing housings, wheel drives and subframes, and also front and rear axles.
