MAPAL claims its new range of spiral-fluted PCD step drills allow machining time reductions of up to 75% to be achieved by combining multiple machining operations in a one-shot solution. The company says these new drills are suitable for applications in automotive manufacturing and feature a unique chip transport system that offers particular benefits for drilling and boring processes in aluminium parts.
The company’s engineers refined the flute geometry and pitch, ensuring that the chip flutes are polished over the entire length of the drill to minimise the friction between chips. The company points to a further refinement in the optimised positioning of the coolant outlets, crucial for MQL machining.
