Mexico – The coatings supplier is investing $27m to expand its manufacturing facility with four new buildings amounting to 100,000 sq. ft of production and laboratory space. The additional capacity will enable PPG to meet increased demand from automotive OEMs as well as other industrial customers in the country.
Groundbreaking has now taken place and the project is expected to be completed by 2015, when the facility will employ over 115 personnel – 30% more than at present. The expansion is planned to incorporate eco-friendly building designs, water recycling and both natural light and intelligent lighting systems to maximise energy efficiency.
Adriana Macouzet, PPG general manager, Latin America North, described the expansion as “another important step for PPG’s future in Mexico”. Macouzet added: “It will enhance PPG’s capability to serve the country’s fast-growing automotive manufacturing market with the latest waterborne and compact process technologies that today’s global automotive OEMs are demanding.”
