Malaysia – The model, known as RVR and Outlander Sport in other markets, is being assembled at Tan Chong Motor Assemblies (TCMA), a consigned assembler of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM). The ASX will be sold throughout the country from February.
Morikazu Chokki, senior executive officer, said that since its establishment in 2005 MMM has achieved “remarkable progress” and that the locally produced ASX “is an important step for further growth here”. It is the first made-in-Malaysia model.
The strengthening of its production base in the ASEAN is a key aspect of Mitsubishi’s ‘New Stage 2016’ mid-term business plan, which starts in April 2014. The company expects to expand its product line-up in Malaysia, including more locally made models.
