Mazda KulimMalaysia – Located within the grounds of a plant owned by vehicle manufacturer and assembler Inokom, the facility is exclusive to Mazda vehicles; mass production of the Mazda CX-5 for the domestic market, and Thailand, has now commenced.

Together with a similarly dedicated bodyshop which opened in March last year, Mazda has invested 100m ringgit ($31m) in local production in the region, having initially commenced Mazda3 manufacturing on a consignment basis with Inokom in 2011. The total annual capacity of the two facilities amounts to 20,000 units. Production of the all-new Mazda3 for Malaysia is due to begin in 2014.

Masatoshi Maruyama, executive officer and general manager of Hiroshima Plant, commented: “Mazda regards Malaysia as a key production base in the ASEAN region and we are very pleased to further strengthen our local production framework here with the completion of this Mazda-exclusive vehicle assembly facility.”
