South Korea/Vietnam – The company is supplying three FocusQuantum laser cutting solutions for airbag production; two will be used for one-piece woven fabric at a factory in Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, while another will be installed for cut-and-sew work at a new facility in Bình Duong Province, Vietnam.
“We aim to double our global airbag sales by 2020,” explained Yeong Moo Choi, chief division officer, Kolon Industries. “The substantial increase in capacity enabled by FocusQuantum will allow us to grow our business in the thriving airbag industry.”
Kolon has used Lectra technology at its airbag business since 2004 and now has more than 20 Focus cutters at plants in Asia and North America. The FocusQuantum equipment includes the latest cutting preparation software.
The airbag business is part of Kolon’s automotive materials and components division, which sits alongside three other divisions in its portfolio. Some of the company’s airbag production takes place in China and Mexico.
