US – The model will be added to the existing production line-up at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) in mid-2016. The Santa Fe was last built at this location in August 2010.
"The new production will help us meet the growing demand for one of our most popular products,” commented Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. At the Alabama plant, the Santa Fe Sport will join the Sonata and Elantra, enabling HMMA to shift its product mix in line with market demands.
Over the next few months, the factory will undergo a programme of retooling, robot programming and logistical projects to prepare for the addition of the Santa Fe Sport. Hyundai says that production targets for the three HMMA models “will be determined at a later date”.
