India – An Amaze was the first vehicle to roll off the line at the plant in Rajasthan, the second site of Honda Cars India (HCIL). The annual capacity of HCIL now stands at 240,000 vehicles.

HCIL started Phase One operations in 2008 with a press shop and powertrain unit. The new 450-acre site is an integrated manufacturing unit incorporating: forging; press shop; powertrain shop; weld shop; paintshop; plastic moulding; engine assembly; frame assembly; and engine testing.

According to the vehicle-maker, the Tapukara plant is “the culmination of the best manufacturing know-how and practices gathered from Honda’s global operations”, including “optimum automation”, the latest equipment, the most effective layout and efficient ergonomics. The economical use of energy and other natural resources is also a key focus at Tapukara.

The new plant has a workforce of around 3,200.
