GKN Driveline, NewtonUS – The driveline supplier announced an expenditure of $179m over the next five years to grow its manufacturing facilities in Alamance, Catawba, Lee and Person. The investment will support increasing demand for its all-wheel-drive (AWD) and eDrive products among North American vehicle-makers.

Phil Swash, CEO of GKN Driveline, described the move as “an important part of our long-term growth strategy”. The company expects AWD sales to exceed 3m in 2020, up from 2.4m in 2015.

The expansions will be facilitated by job development investment grants from the state. GKN has been present in North Carolina since 1978 and its latest investment will create 302 jobs.
