China –The €50m ($62m) facility is located at a chemical industry park and adjacent to another new BASF resin and electrocoat plant which will start operations in the second half of 2015. The company says the close proximity of the two facilities will enable greater synergies and operational efficiency.
“Our new plant is designed according to the latest and most environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes and technologies,” commented Peter Fischer, senior vice-president, Coatings Solutions Asia Pacific, BASF. The facility boasts state-of-the-art ventilation and off-gas treatment, plus closed handling of ingredients, which will ensure a clean environment both within and around the plant.
“We plan our investments according to the anticipated market development and customer demands,” added Albert Heuser, president Functions Asia Pacific, president and chairman Greater China, BASF. “We will continue to invest in strengthening our local production in China and Asia to respond even faster to our customers.”
The new plant will be operated by BASF Shanghai Coatings, the 17-year-old joint venture between BASF Group and Shanghai Huayi Fine Chemical.
