Hungary – The OEM will introduce the extra shift in May, increasing production capacity for its compact cars. The move follows a similar development at Rastatt, Germany, towards the end of 2012. Last year, both plants worked numerous extra Saturday shifts in order to keep up with demand.
“Most recently, our production has hardly kept up with the dynamic sales development of our compacts,” commented Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the board of management of Daimler and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
He added: “That’s why we are now switching our second compact car plant to three-shift operations as well.”
