Germany – The chemical company is providing basecoats in four colours for the i3 production line at BMW Leipzig, which started manufacturing in September last year.
The electric vehicle (EV) consists of a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) body-in-white (BIW) on which coated plastic add-on parts are mounted, creating new challenges for coating application.
“Our laboratory teams joined forces with the BMW Group to develop a coating for the special construction of the i3,” commented Frank Naber, BASF’s account manager for BMW Europe. The company is also providing technical field service at Leipzig on a daily basis.
