South Africa – The brand new factory, located at the Coega Industrial Development Zone near Port Elizabeth, will cover 85,000 sq.m and will have capacity to make 100,000 vehicles per year. The new development is expected to create around 2,500 jobs. Four BAIC models are set to be assembled, from CKD kits, with production commencing at the end of 2017. According to the Coega Development Corporation, the $759bn (11bn Rand) deal with BAIC represents is the largest automotive investment in Africa for 40 years.
