Canada – The next-generation Edge crossover, due to come to market in 2015, will be manufactured using Extragal steel produced at ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s facility in Hamilton.
The double-sided, pure zinc, galvinised steel grade is already used for the outer body panels of the current-generation Edge and will be supplied for the doors, liftgate and fenders of the new model. ArcelorMittal says Extragal offers high corrosion resistance and surface quality, making it ideal for automotive applications.
A variety of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) will also be supplied by ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s NAFTA facilities, including Usibor for hot stampings.
Production of the new Ford Edge will begin at the end of 2014.
