India – The first Datsun GO has now rolled off Line 2 at the Renault Nissan Alliance plant (RNAIPL) in Oragadam, ahead of the start of sales in March.
Oragadam, is the first plant worldwide to commence production of the new generation of Datsun models and will be supplied by more than 100 companies in the surrounding area. Local manufacture will begin in other high-growth markets such as Indonesia and Russia later this year.
“From day one, we knew that the key to the success of the Datsun brand was that the cars must be developed, engineered and manufactured locally,” commented Vincent Cobee, global head of Datsun, explaining that this strategy provides “a unique insight into customer needs”.
