VW 2017 e-GolfGermany – The OEM will spend €20m ($21.2m) on converting its Transparent Factory back into a manufacturing location, which will be known as the Center of Future Mobility. Production will begin with single-shift operation in April 2017.

“With a unique combination that allows visitors to experience the production of an electric model, vehicle delivery, events and electric test drives, a visit to the Transparent Factory will become an unforgettable experience for customers,” said Siegfried Fiebig, speaker of the management board of Volkswagen Sachsen. "We want to provide a close encounter with the mobility of the future."

One year ago, the Transparent Factory became Volkswagen’s “showcase for e-mobility and digitalisation” with more than 40 exhibits and vehicles providing an interactive experience of future mobility. The facility has since received 75,000 visitors and over 1,800 potential customers have taken a test drive with an electric vehicle (EV).

Volkswagen Sachsen and Dresden recently signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement to turn the city into a model of e-mobility, digitisation and innovative fleet management. This will include the expansion of charging infrastructure, the transformation of the municipal fleet into EVs, car-sharing projects and support for start-ups in the area of mobility services.

The new e-Golf will also be manufactured at the main Golf plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
