Stellantis commits over $406M to three Michigan facilities to ramp up production of electric vehicles, including the Ram 1500 REV and electrified Jeep Wagoneer, in line with its Dare Forward 2030 strategy for sustainable mobility.
Stellantis has announced an investment exceeding $406 million in three Michigan plants to support its multi-energy strategy.
Key initiatives include the accelerated retooling of the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) for the production of both battery electric and range-extended electric versions of the Ram 1500, alongside internal combustion models. At the Warren Truck Assembly Plant (WTAP), Stellantis will introduce electrified Jeep Wagoneer models to its production line, while the Dundee Engine Plant (DEP) will focus on producing battery trays and machining components to support both electric and gas engines.
These investments are in line with Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which aims to lead the global mobility shift by providing innovative and sustainable solutions.
Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) A $235.5 million investment will enable SHAP to become Stellantis’ first U.S. facility to build a fully electric vehicle. The 2025 Ram 1500 REV, a battery-electric light-duty truck, and the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a range-extended model, will be produced here. SHAP’s multi-energy strategy allows for simultaneous production of internal combustion engine (ICE), battery electric vehicle (BEV), and range-extended models on a single line.
The Ram 1500 REV, based on the new STLA Frame architecture, offers up to 500 miles of range with its largest battery pack option. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will provide impressive performance with 663 horsepower and 14,000 lbs. of towing capacity, using a unique range-extending generator and an innovative battery design.
Warren Truck Assembly Plant (WTAP) WTAP will receive $97.6 million to prepare for the production of electrified Jeep Wagoneer models, part of Jeep’s broader global EV strategy. These electrified models will be built alongside traditional ICE versions, highlighting Stellantis’ flexible manufacturing approach.
Dundee Engine Plant (DEP) With over $73 million in investment, DEP will be retooled for battery tray production and beam machining for future electric vehicles, complementing existing gas engine assembly. Production of these new components will begin in 2024 and 2026, supporting Stellantis’ electrification goals.
Dare Forward 2030 Strategy Stellantis aims to become a global leader in electrification, committing over €50 billion through the decade. The company targets 100% battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Europe and 50% in the U.S. by 2030, supported by 400 GWh of battery capacity. Stellantis also plans to achieve carbon net zero status by 2038.
This significant investment in Michigan underscores Stellantis’ dedication to innovation, sustainability, and the future of mobility.
