An array of global headwinds are having an unprecedented impact upon the automotive manufacturing sector and supporting supply chains.

There are a number of global factors at play including economic uncertainty undermining business and consumer confidence, inflation driving rising fuel, energy, material and labour costs & shortages, and China’s ongoing zero-Covid policy compounded by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine exacerbating chronic supply chain disruption all of which impacts vehicle production & manufacturing.

There are also a host of unparalleled industry specific factors which the automotive sector is simultaneously having to manage, primarily the mandated wholesale shift to electrification which is transforming the automotive industry’s investment focus. However, vehicle manufacture itself is now also under increasing scrutiny as the regulatory demand grows for vehicle production to reduce carbon footprint and become sustainable in addition to the requirement for the wider supply chains to achieve net zero emissions all the way upstream to the raw materials.

To more accurately gauge the challenges faced by those in the automotive manufacturing industry, Automotive Manufacturing Solutions (AMS) has teamed up with electrification, robotics & automation experts ABB to research the state of manufacturing sector and provide key insights on the findings.

Beyond manufacturing and related challenges, the survey also measures the market sentiment around production and sales volumes, and also looking to the future, explores where the likely challenges and opportunities are likely to be.
