Driverless transport robots, cobots, cloud-connected production networks, precision lasers and testing, big data analytics and AI-ready solutions: Industry 4.0 and the connected factory are increasingly the reality of today’s automotive manufacturing. But as OEMs transition faster to electric vehicles and software-defined cars, the pace of digitalisation in manufacturing must rise even faster.
In this session, technology experts and manufacturing leaders, including Ford’s head of technology integration for manufacturing development, Jim Birley, share their vision for how automotive production should develop, including low-hanging fruit in digital processes today, and longer-term objectives around artificial intelligence, automation and high-speed connectivity.
While many areas have considerable opportunities, including more autonomous robots and new areas of automation, experts pointed to simple gains as well around visibility and cooperation, as well as the importance of training and the developing the right skills for all people working across manufacturing.
