PSA Trémery engine production copyFrance - Like several other manufacturers, Groupe PSA is hoping to benefit from rising demand for electrified vehicles. To ensure it can meet this demand, the company has said that it will prepare its plant in Trémery, France, for the production of electric motors, which will start in 2019. A ramp-up in volume will then take place in 2021 in order to support the OEM's plan to include an electrified version of all models in its line up by 2025.

"What will make the difference will be our agility to prepare our manufacturing base to produce components that meet customer needs and respond to the energy shift, creating the conditions for a sustainable future through enhanced performance," commented Yann Vincent, PSA's executive vice president of manufacturing and supply chain. "Groupe PSA’s 15 component production plants in Europe, located in France, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Poland, are eager to propose the best quality and performance to our customers.”

The company plans to double production of its three-cylinder Turbo PureTech petrol engine at its Trémery and Douvrin plants in France, and will also start making them in at its Tichy plant in Poland and Szentgotthárd plant in Hungary from 2019.

Furthermore, it intends to increase production volumes of the gearboxes used in Peugeot, Citroen and DS vehicles during the same year. These have previously only been made in Japan and China, but thanks to a new partnership with Aisin AW, around 300,000 units of its six-speed EAT6 automatic gearbox will be made at PSA's plant in Valenciennes.
