MetrocabUK – Frazer-Nash Research and Ecotive, makers of Metrocab, say that the zero-emissions-capable vehicle will be able to enter volume production next year, supported by the partnership with manufacturing specialist Multimatic Niche Vehicles (MNV).

MNV, which makes complete cars plus body/chassis assemblies for low-volume programmes, has a well-established facility in Coventry, UK, which is currently undergoing an expansion to accommodate Metrocab series production. A small trial fleet is already being used by Comcab in the UK capital – the first zero-emissions taxi licensed to operate on a trial basis as a London hackney carriage.

“We have been following closely the development of zero-emissions-capable taxis in the UK, and have worked with Metrocab for a number of years to bring their prototype fleet to the market,” commented Larry Holt, Multimatic vice-president. “The taxi has clearly been designed and engineered from the ground up with the global market in mind, and Multimatic has the facilities and capabilities to make this a truly international product – a prospect which really excites us.”
