Siemens Automation and Drives: Focused Automotive Competence with Totally Integrated Automation

Worldwide competence in automotive manufacturers and suppliers.
Siemens Automation and Drives supplies tailor-made automation solutions for the automobile and automotive suppliers' industry.
Specialists from Siemens Automation and Drives, the technological leader, oversee the whole implementation process of a system. The scope of services offered range from the analysis phase to the creation of individual concepts, software tools, programmings and hardware configurations to implementation. Almost all well-known manufacturers worldwide are on the company's customer list and include body shop, final assembly, paint shop, conveyor technology and logistics. Siemens Automation and Drives will also take over the role of general project management on request.

The technical basis: Totally Integrated Automation (TIA)

In close cooperation with its automotive customers, automation concepts from Siemens Automation and Drives are developed with innovative and tested products and systems based on Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) system.
Siemens is the only one-stop provider that offers a homogeneous range of products and systems which make a major contribution to optimising the production, process and system processes. Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) is based on the Siemens philosophy of developing services and application know-how continuously and with future orientation. Benefits to users include: low engineering effort in the creation of automation solutions, low life cycle costs in the operation of systems and a considerable reduction in the time-to-market as well as a noticeable increase in the productivity and a higher investment security

Complete product range from the field to the office level

The basis of the automation architecture is the programmable logic controllers of the Simatic series S7-300 and S7-400 that allows the efficient installation of automation solutions. Homogeneous solutions ranging from the individual sensor in the field to the MES software range, to the link to the office environment can be configured without breaks in the system.
The extensive product range of control and drive technology, sensors, peripheral devices and the complete product range of the industrial communication platforms are used for the transmission of information across cells, systems and factories. For this, Siemens relies on the Profinet communications standard. Profinet, the open, manufacturer-neutral Industrial Ethernet standard of the Profibus user organisation meets the requirements of the automotive industry for real time capability, integration of distributed field devices, industrially compatible installation technology etc and therefore guarantees a homogeneous communication from the office environment to the field. The standard is ideally suited to both automation tasks and high performance motion control applications as they occur in the powertrain. WLAN communication by leak wave conductor which ensures reliable data transmission with defined propagation via radio is also offered by the Siemens communications specialists.

Safety integrated with Profinet

Previously, safety-orientated PLC solutions required two different controllers and an additional failsafe bus in a distributed structure. The new solution with Simatic Safety Integrated only requires a single controller with uniform engineering and only one standard bus (Profibus or Profinet) with the Profisafe profile for standard and safety-orientated communication.
This integration of the safety technology in the standard automation reduces interfaces and costs. The more efficient system structure creates smaller and clearer switch cabinets. The creation of the standard and safety program with familiar S7 software minimises training expenses and efficient diagnostic functions help to further reduce cost-intensive downtimes. Conclusion: Profinet is becoming a universally applicable bus system for standard and safetyorientated communication, and enables horizontal and vertical homogeneity from management to the field level.

One contact for all - Corporate Account Managers

With the worldwide Corporate Account concept, the customer has a central contact who makes all the necessary connections, works out integrated solutions and coordinates their implementation. He is the central contact within the different Siemens departments, the machine or system manufacturer's or system integrator's. The customer therefore has less coordination work, faster implementation and more system availability. With 12 Corporate Account managers who work as local and competent partners in the interests of their customers' success, Siemens is right at the heart of the automotive industry on all continents.
