Early on, we established contacts with overseas customers. This global presence has been an asset of ever-increasing importance, enabling us to provide our customers with new solutions on a global level. Nowadays, as national boundaries mean less and less, this is more important than ever.

Frontline of innovation

Uddeholm Tooling is constantly developing new products. Every year we launch two new tool steel grades. One of the most recent is Uddeholm Vancron 40, a nitrided powder metallurgical tool steel developed for severe galling and adhesive wear conditions and/or long-run production in applications where surface coating for the tool is necessary. The idea with Vancron 40 is that it has an inbuilt surface coating. When using other steels with the same production conditions, the steel needs to be surface coated. After a certain number of produced details, the tool needs to be recoated. With Vancron 40, you save both time and money, and the surface coating is always there. Another innovation is the small pelletlike Granshot™ used by foundries. Granshot™ is a foundry meltstock for production of cast tools and dies. The use of Granshot™ means that no further metallurgy is needed in the foundry. After melting of the granules in a high frequency furnace, the molten metal is ready for immediate casting without further processing.

Uddeholm's offer to the automotive industry

The world's automotive companies are one of Uddeholm Tooling's most important customer groups. Uddeholm's package for the automotive industry was created to meet the needs of automotive OEMs and especially their demanding delivery times. The package focuses on the total economy; less downtime in production and shorter lead times.

· In cold work, a new generation of presswork tool steels has been developed.
· Within the hot work segment, Uddeholm’s focus is on long run die-casting production.
· As a third leg and as a complement, Uddeholm started up a new foundry within the Hagfors mill which is capable of producing cast steel goods for car body dies.

Uddeholm is a global company. In our global offer to OEMs, we focus on products and services on a worldwide basis. Our message to the OEMs is that we have the best products and we can support them both technically and commercially wherever they decide to build their tools or produce their products.

We don't sell just a piece of steel, we sell a full package including services like heat treatment, machining and welding. We also offer technical and commercial support.

increased performance with a better steel During the latest years, Uddeholm has developed new application fields for our tool steels. One of the features with tool steel in comparison with regular engineering steel is its highly specialised characteristics. It is easy to find a steel in Uddeholm's portfolio with better properties than a conventional engineering steel.

Some years ago, we did trials in our own mill. Initially, we replaced the steel in machine parts exposed to extreme environmental conditions or stresses with our own steel grades. The purpose to decrease the maintenance and replacement costs on our own equipment. Now, some years later, we have turned these trials into a new business area
- Uddeholm High Performance Steel, with the aim of helping our customers to improve life time and reduce maintenance and downtime costs. The solutions we present are almost so efficient that the total cost during a products life cycle is lower compared to standard solutions. Some examples of industries we have solutions for are: manufacturing, racing, recycling, pulp and paper and steel mill and mining.
