ABB, leader in Robotics solutions for Automotive Industry

In the early 1970s, ABB was first to develop the all-electric, microcomputer-controlled industrial robot. Today, after more than 140,000 installations, we have the most competitive robot range. ABB robots are well-known for superior performance in terms of speed, accuracy, repeatability, reliability, flexibility, reach and payload.

A leader in motion technology, ABB is now offering the most comprehensive motion control package on the market with its new robot controller named IRC5. In fact, it includes a powerful novelty, MultiMove, allowing the control of up to 4 robots and a total of 36 axes from just the one controller. Thanks to this sophisticated solution, different robot types of varying sizes are readily combined. The new controller is simple to set up for a broad range of applications, and features standard modules for easy adaptation to customer needs.

Manufacturing solutions for the automotive industry
In press automation, ABB's broad range of solutions includes stamp loading or unloading, blanks destacking and racks stamping. It offers modular solutions for tandem press lines, from the smallest to the largest presses, as well as for transfer presses.
The body-in-white know-how includes robots, application equipment and software products as well as complete body assembly solutions. Based on Plug & Produce modules, ABB solutions are FlexFramer - robot-based framing system, FlexiCell - robotized production cells and have complete solutions for engine, transmissions or axles including test systems. ABB designs solutions such as complete production lines, automation of single operation and robot-based stations for assembly, tightening, pressing or joining.

For automotive components' manufacturers, standardized solutions, such as arc welding, cutting and painting are perfectly adapted from exterior or interior vehicle components to chassis and bodies, glass and aluminum castings manufacturing. Those applications are based on the use of mastered and reliable standard products, allowing a rapid installation and start-up of production.

Services
ABB aims at providing its customers with innovative service and maintenance solutions to increase productivity, with high return on investment.
Controlling the lifecycle cost of installation and optimizing cost of ownership are the keywords for an asset-intensive industry such as automotive manufacturing.
